As a Councilmember, I have been actively involved in discussions with stakeholders to increase the number of affordable housing units. I believe that everyone deserves a place to call home, regardless of their income level.
Recently, we have been considering replacing our land trust with a housing authority to encourage the development of affordable homes. Despite previous serving as Chair of the Irvine Community Land Trust, we have not been sufficient during the statewide housing crisis.
I strongly believe that we should explore every possible solution, including establishing our own housing authority. I shared with the Voice of OC, "I think we have to look at every tool in our toolbox, like a housing authority, and we need to explore that to see if that's a route we want to take."
My vision for Irvine is to establish workforce housing programs that specifically cater to working-class professionals such as teachers, nurses, police officers, and firefighters. These individuals, who are the backbone of our community, are often priced out of the existing housing market. I am committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of Irvine residents through my work on affordable housing.
